Bravo! Concerts Northwest | From Blues to Bernstein

January 27 @ 3:30 pm

Bravo! Concerts Northwest presents “From Blues to Bernstein – East Meets West” with an ensemble of internationally acclaimed guest artists including Russian violinist Tatiana Kolchanova, Croatian-American pianist Maria Manzo, Ukrainian pianist Sergey Kirillov; and American musicians, clarinetist Michael Kissinger Broadway singer Douglas Webster and cellist Collin Oldham.

The Vancouver concert is Sunday, January 27 at 3:30 PM.  Tickets are $30 for adults.  Students age 18 and younger are free.  For tickets and info see or call the Box Office at 360-906-0441.

The show features a wide variety of music ranging from blues-oriented Jewish Klezmer dance music; to highlights from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story; to music commissioned for the inauguration of President Barack Obama.  American, Russian, Romanian, Polish and Czech composers are featured on the concert – which will show the musical and cultural connection between Eastern Europe, Western Europe and the USA.  Music includes: Air & Simple Gifts by the Academy Award-winning film composer John Williams – a piece that was commissioned and performed for the inauguration of President Barack Obama; Jewish Klezmer Dance by Romanian composer Serban Nichi; highlights from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, and Slavonic Dances by Czech composer Antonin Dvorak – both of which are arrangements for two piano players performing on one piano; Polish composer Witold Lutoslawki’s Dance Preludes for Clarinet and Piano; the Hopak Dance for Violin and Piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky; the songs ‘Maria’ from West Side Story and ‘Simple Song’ from MASS by Leonard Bernstein; and Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Cello Sonata.

“This concert will be an entertaining & fun show with a wide variety of music – a kind of musical kaleidoscope.  There are Jewish and Russian folk dances, music by film composer John Williams, classics like ‘West Side Story’ by Leonard Bernstein, and fun pieces arranged for two piano players performing on one grand piano.  The music ranges from playful and joyous to heroic and virtuosic” says pianist Maria Manzo.

This concert is part of the 26th annual Bravo! Concerts Northwest series.  Since 1993, Bravo! has presented more than 150 live concerts in Vancouver, Portland and throughout the Northwest to more than 50,000 audience members.  Bravo! produces the Bravo!
